Jesse E DesRosier, born and raised on the Blackfeet (Amskapi Pikuni) Reservation in Montana and considers himself a Pikuni first and foremost. His real name is-Nit’koomii (One Shot), childhood name was Assinaipooyii (Cree Speaker). Jesse prefers the title of “Nina” (father, husband, provider, protector, leader, warrior). Born in the moon of the big snow, Jesse is a SAG AFTRA stuntman, artist, veteran of the United States Marine Corps, as well as a former prize fighter competing in Bare Knuckle Fighting, MMA, Boxing and kick boxing. Jesse was a graduate from Cutswood School (Piegan Institute) in 2003 finishing the 8th grade, the. Moving onto Browning High School (on the Blackfeet Reservation). After completing high school, Jesse served in the Marine Corps from 2007-2011. Later he attended the University of Montana (Missoula); where he graduated with a BA in Native American Studies and a minor in Anthropology. Today Jesse teaches the Blackfeet language, and history using primarily the traditional language, plains sign language, pictographs/Winter Count symbols and written language at the Cutswood School and BCC.
While in college he co-founded Sacred Roots Language Society, which was a student run society (club) that advocated for indigenous language revitalization and classes across campus. While serving as a leader of the SRLS he was able to host two language conferences inviting advocates, language speakers, professors, and activists from across the nation; as well as hosting several fund raisers and elder speaking sessions at the University of Montana. Jesse is a proud Husband and father of four, currently working as a Blackfoot language instructor at Piegan Institute also known as the Cutswood School on the Blackfeet Reservation; as well as an instructor at Blackfeet Community College (BCC).
Besides working as stuntman Jesse has worked on several smaller projects as a language consultant, co-writer, co-producer, highlighting the Blackfoot language. Some of his stunt work include- “Horizon chapter 1 and 2”,(directed by Kevin Costner released in 2024) “American Primeval” (Directed by Peter Berg released on Netflix in 2025) to list a couple. His passion work as a filmmaker Include the YouTube short titled “Buffalo Runner”, ( directed by Robert Eastman, and Jesse DesRosier available on YouTube) and “Soyii” (Directed by Kristian Kerry not yet released) which are both all spoken in the Blackfoot language. Jesse’s overall goal is to help share Blackfoot stories and history from our own perspectives.
