Bio

Colleen Fitzgerald, PhD, is the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity at North Dakota State University (NDSU), a public land-grant Carnegie R1 research institution in the top 100 public research universities.  Dr. Fitzgerald has served in leadership roles in academia and in government, including as a rotating program officer at NSF, where she ran an interagency partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities.  She has been recognized as a Fellow of both the Linguistic Society of the America and the American Association for the Advancement of Science for her work supporting Native American language communities in revitalization and documentation. That work includes co-directing the Oklahoma Breath of Life Workshop from 2011 to 2014, directing the 2014 Institute on Collaborative Language Research (CoLang) at the University of Texas at Arlington, a collaboration with Joshua Hinson and the Chickasaw Language Revitalization Program, and leading workshops and training for the Oklahoma Native Languages Association and the University of Arizona's American Indian Language Development Institute (AILDI), among others.
