Hello everyone! My name is Eduardo Lactaoen (he/him), and I’m an undergraduate student from South San Francisco majoring in linguistics and Spanish at UC Davis. I’m a research assistant with the Native American Language Center, and my work mainly revolves around indexing audio files of elicitation sessions and transcribing field notebooks, particularly those of the Yuki and Southern Sierra Miwok languages. My end goal is to make the products of academic research accessible to the communities in question. As a second-generation Filipino, I’m keenly aware of the relationship between language and cultural identity, and I’m glad that my work in linguistics is already being put to use helping minority language groups reclaim their linguistic heritage.
